One of the best known language teachers was Paul Guedella, who worked in Bath from 1762. Apart from a very public, vitriolic and even libelous competition with another language master in the town, Guedella is notable for having published a manual of instruction in the English and French language in 1780. This teacher's descendant, Philip Guedella (who was a pupil at Neumegen's School in Richmond) achieved literary distinction in more recent times.

There were in addition to this, a variety of people associated with clothing and fashion following the trend set by Beau Nash - a furrier, ostrich feather curler, as well as two old-clothes men, who would have found a good supply of cast-offs from the rich to be recycled into clothing for the lower stratas of society.
