There is some Motorway but mainly "A" road access to Bury St Edmunds and Thetford. There are direct bus services from London Victoria to Bury St Edmunds, Thetford and Bungay. The direct bus connection to Bungay is the only direct public transport link to the village. There are rail services from London King's Cross to Bury St Edmunds (largely changing at Ely or Ipswich), also there are services from London Kings Cross and Liverpool Street to Thetford (largely changing Ely and Norwich). East Anglian destinations are quite distant from London and travel times can be longer than to some parts of the country of a comparable distance.
Getting There
There are frequent rail services to Guildford from several London main-line stations, as well as from Clapham Junction. There are also coach services from Victoria Coach Station.
Getting There
From London there are regular coach services from Victoria Coach Station (with other stops on the route through London) provided by National express. Journey time 1 1/2 - 2 hours. There are hourly main line rail services from Euston BR station, taking 55 minutes.
Getting there
From London. The cheapest and most frequent services are offered by coach services (running from Victoria Coach and Rail station) . Both are at 15 minute intervals most of the day, and take an 1 1/2 hours, though peak hour traffic can add half an hour to the journey. There are also regular services from Paddington railway station, taking 55 minutes or more.
DISABLED ACCESS
Most of the tour sites are accessible by car or wheelchair. Blue Town is a compact level area with some cobbles and alleyways, but generally free of traffic. The Hope Street Cemetery may present serious difficulties as it is frequently over-grown and without paths.
Disabled Access
Visits to Dover Jewish Heritage can be mostly done from a car! The cemetery however is difficult in so far as the steep slope where the majority of the burials are to found would be impossible for many visitors with limited mobility. However the rest of the cemetery (where the inscriptions are) should be accessible as it is mostly level, if grassy and is close to the gate.
Getting There
From London. Regular train services are available from London as well as coach services. Dover is also readily accessible by car and car parking can be found on the side streets, even close to the town centre.
Disabled Access
There may be problems of full access to some parts of the Moyses Hall to disabled visitors, especially to the upper floors. All the other Bury St Edmunds sites are readily accessible. There are modern toilet facilities (including disabled) for all visitors in the Abbey Gardens. Further information can be gained from the Tourist Information Centre at Angel Hill, near the Abbey.
Disabled Access
The synagogue site and its displays are readily accessible, and the surrounding streets are largely pedestrianised. The castle gardens are accessible for a wheel chair but entry to the Keep itself is difficult.
Disabled Access
The route is suitable but not always easy for wheelchairs, with some uneven street surfaces, i.e. cobbles, and York stone flags, narrow pavements with kerbs. Bulwarks Lane is inaccessible from its New Road entry and a detour would need to be made down New Inn Hall Street. There is wheelchair access to the colleges on the route, though there are ramps, and the occasional step to negotiate to get access to certain parts of the interiors. But be warned that wheelchairs can only get access (due to cycle traps elsewhere) to Christ Church Meadow from St Aldateās.
Disabled Access
The route posses the usual hazards and difficulties of towns, though the pedestrian areas of the market square, and some adjacent areas are excellent. The route to St Sepulchre Church, and Barrack road might be better visited by car.
Getting There
There are excellent road, rail and bus links to Bath from London. Road links are via the M4, rail via Paddington Station and bus, via Victoria Bus Station.
Disabled Access
Most of the major sites in Bath are accessible to wheel-chair users and the central streets are pedestrianised. However the tour sites off the centre are not close together and the city has steep slopes and hills. The cemetery was locked and not readily accessible at the original time of visiting it was over-grown, with no paths through; definitely a visit only for the intrepid!
Getting There
There are rail-links from London main-line stations, coach services from Victoria and major road links.
Disabled Access
The Hereson Estate is accessible to wheelchair users, but with the following provisos. There is an un-metalled road up a hill to the synagogue. The synagogue is reached by a ramp though there are some steps up into the building. The cemetery is all level going, as is George IV Park. However there are steep ramps and changes of level at the site of the house.
It is recommended that disabled visitors park close to the Cathedral. There is a car park at Castle Hill very close to the Cathedral which gives a level approach to the Cathedral itself. The Cathedral provides partial access via ramps, the loan of wheelchairs, as well as disabled facilities including toilets. There is also an exhibition for the blind and partially sited and provision for those with a hearing difficulty. The main problems are to be encountered in visiting Steep Hill and the Strait which have steep to very steep slopes (though they are negotiated by wheel-chairs) and the interiors of these domestic buildings have very poor access. While the pavements are well laid, the roads are cobbled in this area. The local tourist information centers, at 9 Castle Hill, and 21 the Corn Hill, can provide further information.
Getting There
There are road, rail and coach links from London.
Disabled Access
Most of the sites are on street and are accessible by car. However it must be remembered that many of the street are on steep hills with un-adapted pavements for wheelchair users. Number 105 Slad Road, on the itinerary, is off the road on a path.
